Welcome to the 19th Arab Regional Conference!

Delegations started to flow to the Hazmieh Rotana Hotel, Lebanon, where the 19th Arab Regional Conference is taking place. 

Eighty delegates from 15 countries are present. The countries are: Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Tunis, Sudan, Syria, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Mauritania, Yemen, Iraq and Palestine. The WAGGGS delegation is formed by Margaret Treloar, Chairman, World Board; Liesbeth Lijnzaad, Member, World Board; Wamuyu Mahinda, Member, World Board; Nadine ElAchy, Member, World Board; Mary Mc Phail, Chief Executive; Lydia Mutare, Leadership, Programme and Membership Development Director; Donna Lednicky, World Centre manager at Sangam; Nour Idris, Volunteer, Pax Lodge and Micheline Antonian, Regional Director, Arab Region.

And our guests from: our honorary members, Olave Baden-Powell Society (OB-PS), ISGF and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

During the day there were several preparatory meetings. The Arab committee met to have a debrief on the Conference programme for the next day and review their roles and responsibilities, the Procedural Team met to clarify the role and responsibility of each member of the team, specially when it’s the first time to have such team in the Arab Regional Conferences. The Chairman of the Arab Region along with her vice chairman and the Arab Regional director met with head of delegations to introduce the procedural team, highlight the conference programme, discuss the voting process and who has the right to vote.

The Orientation session provided practical information to the participants and answered their questions about the running of the conference.
